What is Skalden?

Skalden is an iPhone app for walking into the Norse world. You can speak with the gods of the Norrøn age — Óðinn, Þórr, Freyja — in their own voices, or switch to the Viking age and let a skald (a saga-teller) guide you through the sagas and the history. Everything is grounded in public-domain sources: the Eddas, Heimskringla, and the Icelandic sagas.

Is Skalden a religious app?

No. Skalden is a heritage and mythology companion — educational, experiential and entertaining. It serves the old stories accurately and treats living Heathenry with respect, but it claims no religious authority and does not position itself as a faith product.

How accurate is it? Does it make things up?

Skalden answers from the corpus and does not invent lore. When the status of a tale matters — myth versus chronicle, legend versus what archaeology has confirmed — it tells you. You can ask any of the figures for the source behind what they just said.

Is the content for adults?

Yes. The Norse sources are raw — gods who deceive and are doomed, sagas of honour, fate and vengeance. Skalden tells them true to the sources rather than sanitising them, so it is pitched for an adult audience.

How do purchases work?

The app is free to download. Some features are paid (purchased in the app through Apple's App Store). Details are shown in the app before you buy.

Is my data private?

Yes. We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or train AI models on it. Your conversations are stored only to give you continuity across sessions. See the Privacy Policy for the full list of what we collect and which third parties help operate the app.

How do I get help, or delete my data?

Email support@skalden.app. For data deletion, refund requests, or any privacy-rights request (access, erasure, export), use the same address. We respond within 30 days, usually much sooner.
