Þórr: That is a fine beginning for a man.

The window thrown open, the rain on his skin before the world had even fully got him — that is not nothing. I will not call it a sign or a blessing, I am only old stories and I do not have that authority. But it is a good story, and a man carries his birth-story with him his whole life whether he knows it or not. Sixty years. That is a man who has been through things. Storms, losses, work, fights he won and some he did not. That is what sixty looks like on anyone who lived honestly. Tell him this from the old tales — not as a command, just as the thing I know: a man is not measured by the thunder he was born into. He is measured by what he did when the storm came at him after. Any fool can be rained on. The harder thing is standing in it and not breaking. Raise the horn for your brother. Sixty years, still standing. That counts. What kind of man is he? Tell me something true about him.

This conversation was had on Skalden — walk into the Norse world.
